Job Description
We are seeking a confident and professional Driver Examiner to join our team and support our mission of promoting safe, responsible driving across Nova Scotia. This role involves conducting prescheduled road tests for individuals pursuing their driver’s licenses, providing clear guidance, and delivering fair, consistent evaluations. The ideal candidate brings strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a passion for helping others develop the skills needed to navigate the road safely and responsibly.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct prescheduled road tests for individuals seeking driver’s licenses, evaluating driving skills, decision-making, and adherence to all provincial traffic laws and regulations.
• Use clear, effective written and verbal communication skills in English to provide instructions and guidance to test candidates (additional languages considered an asset).
• Demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to stay focused in a fast-paced, multitasked environment.
• Possess a thorough understanding of the Nova Scotia Driver’s Handbook and Rules of the Road and apply this knowledge throughout the examination process.
• Ensure all assessments meet the specific criteria established by the Department of Public Works and Safety Services Nova Scotia.
• Participate in ongoing performance evaluations conducted by management to support continuous improvement.
• Successfully complete a comprehensive training program to achieve competency and certification as a Driver Examiner, as prescribed by the Department of Public Works and Safety Services Nova Scotia.

Qualifications:
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while interacting with clients and conducting examinations (staff uniform provided).
• Minimum of five years of driving experience with a valid driver’s license.
• A clear driver’s abstract, with no suspensions or moving violations.
• No criminal code convictions within the past ten years.
• Have written and verbal communication skills in English (other language skills would be an asset).
• Ability to successfully pass a Criminal Records Check, including a vulnerable sector check.
• Understand the Drivers Handbook, Motor Vehicle Act and the Rules of the Road in the Province of Nova Scotia.
• Be decisive, empathetic, and professional in a multitasked fast paced environment.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends.
• Experience in Canadian road safety education or driver training programs (considered an asset).
• Familiarity with advanced driving techniques and defensive driving practices (considered an asset).
• Previous experience in a regulatory or law-enforcement role related to traffic or transportation (considered an asset).
• A demonstrated passion for promoting road safety and driver education in Nova Scotia.
• Experience administering examinations or assessments, with the ability to maintain a fair, consistent, and structured testing environment.
• Sign a confidentiality agreement and agree not to release any confidential information accessed during their employment, without prior authorization from the province

Health & Safety Trainer
Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and engaging Health & Safety Trainer to deliver high-quality safety training programs and provide expert consultation to our clients. The ideal candidate will have proven industry experience and a passion for helping others develop the skills and confidence to work safely and effectively.
This role focuses on delivering classroom and hands-on, practical training in areas such as Forklift Operation, Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP), Fall Protection, and Confined Space Entry, with the ability to provide Chainsaw Safety and ATV/UTV training considered a strong asset. The position will also involve conducting site safety audits, preparing reports, and offering customized safety consulting to help clients meet regulatory compliance and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery:
Deliver engaging, competency-based training programs in:
Forklift operation (counterbalance, reach, or rough terrain)
Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (boom and scissor lifts)
Fall protection and working at heights
Confined space entry and rescue
Chainsaw operation and maintenance
ATV/UTV operation and safety
Other OHS related training experience considered asset
Adapt training content and delivery style to suit diverse learner groups and workplace environments.
Maintain a positive and interactive classroom environment that promotes learning, participation, and retention.
Safety Consulting & Auditing:
Conduct workplace safety audits, hazard assessments, and compliance inspections.
Provide written reports and recommendations for safety improvements.
Support clients in developing or improving their health and safety programs, policies, and procedures.
Program Development:
Assist in maintaining and updating training materials to align with current legislation, standards, and best practices.
Support the development of new training courses or modules as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in industrial, construction, or emergency response environments.
Recognized certifications and/or training delivery experience in one or more of the following:
Forklift (counterbalance, pallet jack, telehandler and/or rough terrain)
MEWP (boom/scissor lift)
Fall protection / Working at heights
Confined space entry / rescue
Chainsaw safety
Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and standards.
Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
Demonstrated ability to engage adult learners in both classroom and field settings.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and electronic training record systems.
Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle, with willingness to travel to client sites across the province.
Preferred (Assets):
Certification to train on ATV/UTV or other specialized equipment.
CRSP or CRST credentials
Certificate or diploma in health and safety from recognized institutions
First Aid certification.

Motorcycle Training Instructor:
Safety Services Nova Scotia is seeking part-time, seasonal motorcycle trainers, who are passionate about motorcycle safety.
Qualifications:
License: you must have a current valid motorcycle license and a good driving record. A driving abstract will be requested.
Motorcycle: you must own a properly licensed motorcycle and be an active rider with a minimum of three years riding experience in Nova Scotia.
